Can anyone confirm whether these are the same or different recordings than the three individual LPs (Private Parts, Perfect Lives, Music Word Fire)? If one (me, for instance) has the DVD or CD of the entire opera, do they also need to get the earlier albums?
They are different recordings. Private Parts (The Record) is, for my money, Ashley's masterpiece - his diction and the background music add up to one of the most hypnotic albums I've ever heard. The Perfect Lives version, not so much.
