If I'd only read these posts before ordering.. Same experience here. Muddy as mud and shitty as shit.
  • Wal
yeah, was excited to finally add this to my d jurado collection....terribly muddy with no dynamic. the irony is that the hype sticker talks about what an aural delight it will be...
  • Marilace
I just put this on again after a while and I thought my stylus was shagged. Been messing around for ages adjusting the EQ to try and get it to sound playable, then checked on here and saw it wasn't just me !!! SC335 Black Vinyl edition. If only I could get my money back !
  • Dyni
agreed, it sounds pretty muddy, and way too much low end, luckily i adjust my eq for almost all LP's a put on anyway so I can make due. just weird after listening to the CD so many times, gonna have to get used to it,
  • Scream_I LOVE YOU
Sounds like your ears are covered by fishbowls. Too bad, since the songwriting on this record is absolutely lovely
  • Malien
Helps if you whack the treble up on my set up but yeah disappointing nonetheless same goes for the latest Ryley Walker. I know the demand on the pressing plants is high these days but the quality control on 'new viny' is really really poor the last couple of years and frankly a piss take when you're spending your hard earn't pennies supporting the bands/artists/labels and you end up with a substandard crappy sounding piece of wax. Get your finger out people!
  • Kazracage
Better than 'Golden Sings...' overall but my first copy was warped and the one i replaced it with had damage to the run in effecting the opening passages on track1. Dead Oceans/Secretly Canadian got some work to do to repair their repuatation for naff soundsing LPs in all fairness. Shame becuase their roster is healthy
  • Akelevar
Do you also happen to know what the sound quality is like on Ryley Walker's Primrose Green? This is actually pretty high on my wishlist.
  • Unsoo
i agree with the bad sound of the vinyl pressing. I played the song that I felt i recognised the most and it just sounded like a completely different song. It was dull and lifeless beyond belief! The sound quality was so dull and overly bassy! did anyone else experience this?
  • Blackstalker
Yes, the sound quality of this pressing is inexcusably poor, even by this label's poor standards. It's noisy and muddy throughout and sucks the life out of the music. The MP3's sound significantly better, which is saying a lot.
  • Murn
Yep, poor vinyl quality again on this one. Aware of a number of others suffering with the same issues.
  • Eng.Men
THIS ONE WILL require more listening sessions in front of the stereo with the cheaply made & packaged gatefold cover - open - presenting the lyrics to me as the music plays. There are intricate details in the words.Sadly, the sound quality on this pressing is as I've come to expect from the label Secretly Canadian: noisy - VG listening grade - brand new AND after a professional cleaning. Same poor sound quality as his last release from this label (should change their name to POOR QUALITY PRESSINGS). SC in the past have used United as their pressing plant. United have had issues in the past with shit quality and this release is no exception. Hopefully one day a better outfit (label) will reissue these works and give them the proper pressing/packaging they truly deserve.
  • sergant
Yes, it is a disgrace. Even the MP3 files are sounding so much better than the vinyl. They have had shit pressing for years now. I don't know what they are thinking!
  • Scoreboard Bleeding
Got it today, and unfortunately I agree. Very muddy sound.
